In Bloom
A photographic project about five young trans adults
coming in 2026
In Bloom highlights the unfiltered stories of five trans young adults, exploring acceptance, transition, challenges, education, family, and friendships. Through photoshoots, audio interviews, and an inclusive exhibition, it amplifies trans voices, fostering understanding, awareness, and empowerment.
AIM OF THE PROJECT
The aim of this project is to share the everyday life stories of five young trans adults (aged 18-25) navigating acceptance, transition, challenges, education, family dynamics, and friendships. Through these stories, we aim to increase awareness and understanding for trans individuals and their families, while also fostering a sense of comfort and empowerment for those considering or undergoing transition.
The project will culminate in a selection of participant images accompanied by audio interviews, with transcripts provided for individuals with hearing difficulties, providing viewers with a deeper understanding of the experiences shared.
The core idea behind this project is to amplify the voices of the trans community, allowing participants to shape their representation and share their narratives authentically. Often, media creators inadvertently overshadow the voices of those they portray, striving for a preconceived notion of perfection. This project seeks to shift this perspective, empowering young trans individuals to share their stories on their terms, unfiltered.
The project will be a collaboration between myself and two young aspiring trans photographers, who will play an integral role in all aspects of the project, including participant meetings, story development, and photography.
PARTICIPANTS
The aim is to include five young adults from diverse backgrounds and cultural heritages, potentially including individuals from both London and other cities.

HOW IT WILL BE DONE
There will be three photography sessions with each participant, the project will explore:
1. The moment of realisation—when they recognised the need to transition.
2. The most challenging moment/highlighting their resilience (or, if preferred, focusing on a positive milestone such as “the first time I felt strong and…”).
3. The role of support or celebrating the most supportive person in their journey.
A key aspect of this project is its collaborative approach. Throughout the entire project, I will work closely with two assistants, both trans photography students, who will play a significant role. While they will join me as co-shooters during the third photography session and they will take full responsibility for leading the participant interviews independently.
FINAL OUTCOME
The final exhibition will feature both my work and contribution from the assistants, with visitors able to hear participants' voices via QR codes linking to interview recordings with transcripts available for accessibility.
