Volunteering during the pandemic
Volunteering During the Pandemic spans from April 2020 to April 2021 and it has been a journey filled with encounters with incredible volunteers. In the chaotic upheaval of the world, these amazing Hackney based individuals dedicated themselves to the local community and those in need. Each moment unfolded organically, seamlessly weaving their stories into the fabric of my lens.
The journey began in April 2020 when I connected with the Brownswood Mutual Aid Group near Finsbury Park, North London. In the heart of the Brownswood area, they collected clothing, delivered food to those in self-isolation, and ran a food bank that witnessed over 200 volunteers by April 2020.
Moving forward, my lens turned to Saint John church in Queen’s Drive and the lively team at the local branch of Food Cycle in Finsbury Park. Through their stories, I witnessed the exponential rise in both the needs of the community and the number of volunteers due to COVID-19. 'Volunteering During the Pandemic' is my way of saying thank you to those who found purpose in giving their time to help our local community and residents during these trying times.
